For the February Children’s Book Recommendations, I wanted to stick to a donkey theme! And after watching this Scottish grandmother burst out laughing whilst reading The Wonky Donkey to her grandson, I decided to look into The Grinny Granny Donkey book for the month of February. The Wonky Donkey has been a success in Australia and NZ, with the author Craig Smith hailing from NZ himself. The song based on The Wonky Donkey book won an APRA Silver Scroll Award in 2008 for Best Children’s Song of the Year.

Children’s Book Recommendations – FEBRUARY

The Grinny Granny Donkey by Craig Smith

If you love your grandmother and love to have a good laugh, then give The Grinny Granny Donkey a read. This is the third book from Craig Smith, following the Scottish Grandma internet sensation mentioned above. In this story readers will meet a grinny granny, plunky-plinky, swanky, clinky-clanky, zonky, dunky-drinky, clunky donkey.

Each page reveals something new about The Grinny Granny Donkey which is sure to create laughs all round. A story that builds up as you progress reading it, we particularly enjoyed all the tongue twisters. And to be honest, I was pretty eager to find out what all the hype was about when it came to The Wonky Donkey book, but chose to dive right into The Grinny Granny Donkey story first… And if you wonder why then MAYBE it has something to do with my connection with Grandmothers AND… My Grandma is Like the Sea!
